Dr. Maureen Kong: Low Resilience in Children: Consequences and Recommendations

Dr. Maureen Kong, our clinical psychologist, was interviewed by Ta Kung Pao in early December. In the interview, Dr. Kong discussed the consequences of children with lower resilience, which can include decreased self-esteem, fear of failure, avoidant behavior, heightened alertness, and potential associations with mental health issues as they grow older.


Dr. Kong recommends that parents help their children cultivate a growth mindset. This can be achieved by encouraging kids to interact with their peers, face challenges (to develop coping skills), and learn emotional regulation.
